The smell brought her back to her childhood bakery. The sea has a distinctive aroma, usually pleasant and sweet - always accompanied by the earthy mixture of sand and salt kicked up after a large swell. This morning, the smell of the ocean was coated with these pastel pleasantries. Her life always seemed to be directed by a monochrome masochist - telling her to go to school, travel the world, forget the grief of a lost friend... but this morning was different.
