TomTom launches action camera

TomTom has been helping us navigate our way around the world for some time and now the company wants to help us capture the best action footage too.

Today (April 29), the company has announced its new TomTom Bandit Action Camera with the aim of making movies quick and easy to edit and share.

The device sports a 16-megapixel CCD sensor, which is capable of shooting 4K and 1080p footage at up to 60fps and 720p at up to 120fps.

It is also packed with other features including Bluetooth Smart, Wi-Fi connectivity, USB 3.0 and waterproofing, as well as built-in motion and GPS sensors.

The TomTom Bandit is tackling the time-consuming issue of editing by introducing a built-in media server, which eliminates the need to download footage before being able to edit it.

A companion app can then be used to create and share videos in a matter of minutes, simply by shaking a smartphone - users can still do the fancy stuff such as adding music and overlays of favourite metrics before sharing with friends.

The app is limited to iOS for the moment but work is being done to release an Android version soon.

"We know that the biggest frustration people have with action cameras today is the time and effort it takes to edit," said TomTom Consumer co-founder Corinne Vigreux. "With TomTom Bandit we've cut the editing time down from hours to minutes - all it takes is a shake!"

The TomTom Bandit Action Camera will be available from May, priced at £299.99.
